The HC-SR501 is a pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensor module designed to detect the motion of heat sources, most commonly people or animals. It works by sensing changes in infrared radiation within its field of view, making it ideal for security systems, automatic lighting, energy-saving systems, and smart home devices. The module offers two main adjustments: sensitivity (range) and time delay (how long to maintain the output signal after activation). With an operating voltage of 5V-20V (most commonly 5V is used) and a digital output (HIGH on motion), it is easy to integrate with microcontrollers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or directly with relays.
